BSNL Employees union the citadel of Telecom workers was formed in a historic conference held at Vishakapatanam on 21st and 22nd March 2001.  Eight unions merged to form a unitary type of organisation fulfilling a long cherished dream of the class conscious telecom workers.

The inaugural conference of BSNLEU Kerala circle was held at Kannur in the same year on 16th and 17th August.  Com. P.V. Chandrasekharan, Com.R.N. Padanair and P.K.Gopala Pillai was unanimously elected as the president, secretary and treasurer, of Kerala unit of BSNLEU.  The conference reiterated  telecom workers resolve to fight for a classless society and allign with progressive forces to this end.
The second conference held at Alappuzha on October 2003 elected the same comrades for the three posts and the third conference held at Trichur from November 8 to 10, 2005 elected Com R.N.Padanair, K.Mohanan and G.Sreekumaran Nair as the president secretary and treasurer.

In the first membership verification conducted, as the vast majority of BSNL workers (11331 votes out of 18718 polled and a total no. of 19372 workers) voted in favour of BSNLEU and circle union became eligible for recognition.  The second membership verification of 1st December 2004, BSNLEU got all India recognition and Kerala circle gave a maximum lead of 12976 votes ( 14402 of out of 17261 votes polled and 17873 workers.)

The circle union with its headquarters at P&T House, Trivandrum publish a monthly journal BSNL CRUSADER.  The membership position as on July 2006 is 10341 (excluding civil wing ).  The circle union consists of 13 SSA unions including civil and CGMT office.
